Wacom on the other hand has slightly heavier pens (feels like an ink pen, though not as heavy as a fountain pen).

Havon's pen is ultra light (as heavy as a small pencil) this might be a pro or a con to ppl. Havon has a pen eraser on the end, sadly the eraser sometimes goes crazy on it's own so expect no awesome neat erasing. Here's what differences I spotted some great others bad. I'm a Wacom supporter BUT I went to Shenzhen and found this Hanvon Artmaster 3 tablet. Tell your parents you purchased a Wacom instead and keep the difference. You also get an extra pen, batteries for both pens, and replacement nibs for the pens." It works very well - I would recommend it to any starving student drooling over and about to waste gobs of money on a Wacom tablet of similar specifications. The tablet features a number of programmable macro keys around the sides of the tablet, 1023 pressure sensitivity levels, 2540 LPI resolution, and 100 RPS report rate for speed. Product support isn't all that - but then I didn't pay the extra hundreds to thousands of dollars that companies like Wacom are sliding in the price of admission anyway - so if it breaks I can easily buy a new one, which would cost me less than getting a Wacom repaired / replaced when it goes out of warantee.Īll that aside, the Monoprice is extremely cheaply priced, but is a great performer - here's an excerpt from an easy to find review about the specs: "The tablets come in four sizes - 4x3, 5.5x4, 8圆, and 10圆.

If your in the position to pay a thousand dollars or more, than trying an 40 - 84 pad should'nt be a problem, right? Anyways - the Monoprice pads have been getting excellent reviews despite the percieved notion that getting gouged means you buying a superior product. It cost me 40 bucks for the 10 inch version there is also a 12 inch version for 84 bucks. Anyway I still use it when I go to work or travel for short periods of time.

It has held up pretty good, sturdy - not top of the line performance (slow, software not as good as the first version). The pad I've been using for about 5-7 years is an Aiptek Hyperpen8000 USB. Worked well back then, but it was expensive even back then. I’ll let you know how things turn out….I just bought a pad - the last wacom I had was like 20 years ago on my Mac Performa - a little 4x5 Wacom. I really hate going down this path because I’m afraid I’ll fumble around trying to get just the right configuration for the laptop and never get the drawing tablets working.Īnd I only have 4 more days to finish the article.

So I grabbed the latest – 2.6.14 – and started to build it again with the mods I know I need (like the psmouse driver forced into a loadable module so it doesn’t conflict with the Synaptics pad). Part of the problem is that the kernel I built for my laptop was not installed correctly so I’m sort of hacking my way around it.

The problem is that the Wacom tablet works no better than the Aitpek at the moment. The Wacom has small buttons recessed in the stylus that you don’t seem to hit as much. The Aiptek stylus has a rocker arm for the buttons and I kept pressing that with my thumb. Comparing the two tablets, I find I love the size of the Aiptek but the Wacom stylus is nicer to hold. I bought a 4×5 Graphire4 from CompUSA for $99. But I just couldn’t get it working in time to get this article done. I submitted one bug fix and some minor patches.

I’ve been in touch with the developers and have started to dig into the code myself (it’s somewhat interesting to get involved in such projects, though I’m nuts to do it since I already have too many things to get done as it is).

The Aiptek tablet failed to work easily on my laptop. 4 Nov, 2005 in Acer Aspire 1690i / Aiptek Tablet / General / Wacom tagged Wacom (updated 5886 days ago)
